Recently, thanks to the great control of the Government over the Covid-19 pandemic, almost business activities are positively recovering and passengers are feeling more confident to travel again, as a result, the air traffic volume is immensely increased. In mid-April 2021, Noi Bai international airport served approximately 62,000 pax/day and 430 flight/day, a 25% increase compared with the same period in 2019.

The traffic volume at Noi Bai international airport during the National Reunification Day (April 30), May Day holidays and summer peak 2021 will reach an average of about 78,000 – 80,000 pax/day and over 500 flight/day, increased by 40% versus the same period in 2019 (the time before the Covid-19 pandemic).

Deploying multiple measures to provide better services on peak periods

Right from the end of March, 2021, Noi Bai international airport has proactively prepared many measures to provide better services on upcoming peak periods.

Airport security employee take body temperature for passengers

The airport will strengthen the cooperation with relevant agencies at AOCC center in order to promptly make decision, optimize the operational management at the airport, avoid passenger flow congestions, maximize the capacity of security checking points and baggage conveyor system, well allocate 102 check-in counters at Terminal 1 with the capacity of serving up to 3,060 pax/hour, in addition, the airport security units will coordinate with local police forces to assure the absolute security at the airport.

Passengers are guided to move in the zigzag to maintain the safety distance and security

Furthermore, there are 11 backup check-in counters at zone E of Terminal 1 (from E01 to E08 and from E19 to E21) if needed. The fact that the proportion of passengers who have checked in online via website or mobile application and via kiosk at the airport is about 30-35%, properly reducing the pressure at the check-in counter.

Supporting passengers to implement digital medical declarations

Since the implementation of Directive No. 917/CT-CHK of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam about the requirement on the medical declaration for 100% passengers before security screening, several passengers, especially self-check-in passengers did not complete the medical declaration but queuing for going through security checking points.

Airlines arrange a medical declaration support desk right outside the entrance to line up through the airport security checking points

In the first period of implementation of this Directive, Noi Bai international airport recorded a thousand passengers who did not complete the medical declaration before moving to the next process of security screening. For instance, on March 20, 2021, this number of passengers was 1,447; on March 31, 2021, the number was 712; especially, on April 2, 2021, there were 2,288 passengers missing the medical declaration. Those passengers were required to return to the check-in counter to complete the medical declaration and get the airline’s certified stamp which directly led to the temporary congestion.

In order to address this problem, Noi Bai international airport has drastically cooperated with airlines and ground service providers to compromise the methods to control the passenger’s medical declaration and support them to carry out digital health declarations.

Youth Union of Noi Bai international airport support passengers to conduct medical declaration

The airport has arranged sufficient employees to support passengers at the check-in counter, check-in kiosks, outside the entrance to line up through the airport security check points, especially, Youth Union members have assisted passengers to fulfill digital declaration at 6 internet-based computers. In addition, the airport has deployed pilot software to manage the passengers’ medical declarations report at the check-in counter to strictly control the health safety protocol and optimize the operational process.

As a result, the situation has gradually become better and the number of passengers who did not complete the medical declaration before security screening has significantly decreased, recorded 200-400 pax/day currently.

Notice for passengers:

In order for a safe flight procedure and an on-time performance, the airport would like to notify all passengers as follows:
