Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) and IGA Istanbul Airport Sign Sister Airport Agreement

[Ho Chi Minh, 29 November 2022] – Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) and (iGA) Istanbul Airport have signed the Sister Airport Agreement (SAA) to establish friendly ties as strategic partners, improve products for stakeholders, and contribute to mutual sustainable development. 

Specifically, two airport operators have decided to prioritize cooperation in the areas of new routes development and joint aviation experience in construction and management.

Under this agreement, ACV and (iGA) Istanbul Airport will collaborate to rejuvenate bilateral tourism and business flows, speed up the resumption of scheduled flights between Vietnam and Turkiye, and foster the development of new direct flights between airports operated by parties. Istanbul, being the global hub, is to connect Vietnam with other regions, to tap into new markets such as Australia and beyond.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Phuong, the Executive Vice President - In charge of Business and Market Development of ACV stated, “ACV is very honored to sign the Sister Airport Agreement with (iGA) Istanbul Airport. This is a great opportunity when observing the recovery of civil aviation and tourism after the pandemic recently. Turkiye is the key bridge connecting the Asia-Europe route while Vietnam opens its sky to the world, seeking the position of the hub within Southeast Asia in particular and Pacific Asia in general. Thus, the potentials for cooperation, growth, and sustainable development are significant. The works between ACV and (iGA) Istanbul Airport will pave the new way for further collaboration; promote new routes linked to two regions, and foster trade and investment opportunities in the future.”

Mr. Kadri Samsunlu, the Chief Executive Officer of iGA Istanbul Airport, remarked “It is a moment of joy for us to sign Sister Airport Agreement with ACV. We will primarily focus on sharing our construction and management experience with Airport Corporations of Vietnam (ACV) and Vietnamese carriers. This partnership will help us to develop stronger business and cultural ties between our two nations. iGA Istanbul Airport has proved to be most resilient airport in Europe and is now the largest global hub in Europe expected to reach +60 million passengers by the end of 2022 with 82 carriers in total. Furthermore, we will look forward to share our best practices and know-how in aviation building and management with ACV.”

As the first initiative under this SAA, ACV and (iGA) Istanbul Airport will jointly visit and engage the senior management teams of Vietnamese carriers in the coming days, on starting and resuming flights to Turkiye.

(IGA) Istanbul Airport

İGA Havalimani İşletmesi Anonim Şirketi (hereinafter referred to as “İGA”, the operator of Istanbul Airport, a corporation organized, and existing under the laws of Turkiye. Istanbul Airport, which İGA undertook to construct and operate within the scope of the concession agreement signed with the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI) in the light of the Build-Operate Transfer Model, expected to reach 70 million passengers by the end of 2023. iGA Istanbul Airport is expected to reach a service infrastructure that will serve 200 million passengers with the capacities to be added in the following phases, and is taking firm steps towards becoming the largest airport in the world under one terminal roof.
