At 12pm on December 13th, 2023, Mayor of Nagoya City (Japan) had a business trip with a delegation of 09 members to visit and work with representatives of Airports Corporation of Vietnam - JSC, Danang International Airport, along with leaders of Danang International Terminal Investment and Operation - JSC (AHT) and the city members of Danang Tourism Department and Danang Tourism Association. This content is a part of activity series to visit Vietnam on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan and officially elevated ties to "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World”.

Japan is one of the key tourist markets for central Danang City. Before COVID-19, passenger volume to and from Japan was more than 213 thousand pax, and in the first 8 months of 2023 (from March until now) it has reached more than 58.1 thousand pax to and from Danang with a post-epidemic recovery rate of more than 27%. This is still considered one of the potential markets for recovery and development in the coming years.

Besides the Danang - Narita route, connecting a direct flight to/from Nagoya will create a premise to promote foreign affairs, trade, cultural and tourism exchanges between the two cities. Therefore, with the goal of market research and the potential in developing flight routes, especially to enhacne the memorandum of understanding between Danang International Airport and Chubu Centrair International Airport signed in Feb 2019, the Nagoya delegation also included the participation of Mr. Riki Inuzuka - President and CEO of Chubu Centrair International Airport. According to the results of the discussion, it is expected that the direct flight Danang - Nagoya is scheduled in the first quarter of 2024.

Also in this particular occasion, Danang International Airport had the opportunity to introduce local delicacies, to promote culinary culture as a unique tourism product in Central Vietnam such as Quang noodles, Cau Mong steamed veal, lotus sweet soup marinated with jasmine...

Ahead this meeting, the Nagoya delegation also had another one with the Danang City People's Committee to acquire more information about the city's tourism attraction situation and exchange bilateral cooperation programs in the near future.
