Airports Corporation of Vietnam - JSC (ACV) organized the commencement of the construction project "Expanding the apron to the North, Phase 2" at Da Nang International Airport on October 19, 2020. The achievement was made to welcome the 22nd congress of the Party Committee of Da Nang city and the 13th National Party Congress.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Mr. Nguyen Van The - Member of the Party Central Committee - Minister of Transport, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phu Ha - Vice Chairman of State Capital Management Committee at Enterprises, Mr. Truong Quang Nghia - Member of the Party Central Committee - Secretary of the Party Committee of Da Nang city and representatives of the Air Defence - Air Force Command, Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, 372 Division and media agencies.

The project "Expanding the apron to the North, phase 2 - Da Nang International Airport" is a special grade traffic work, with a total investment of VND 420 billion funded by the Investment and Development Fund of ACV. Designing consultant: Airport Design and Construction Consultancy Co., Ltd (ADCC), Construction contractor: Aviation Construction Corporation (ACC), Supervision consultant: Sub-Institute of Transport Science and Technology in Central Vietnam, Inspection consultant: Transport Engineering Consulting JSC No. 5 - TECCO5. The construction time is scheduled to be 11 months. The project will build 04 additional stands for code C aircrafts, move 5 stands (already built in phase 1) away from runway 35R/17L; expand the reinforced cement concrete apron with an area of 66,905m2, build the asphalt concrete shoulders with an area of 13,326 m2 and the safety areas of 19,796 m2.

Along with the booming tourism industry of Da Nang city in recent years and the increasing demand for air transport, Da Nang International Airport has quickly become one of the three largest international airports in the country (ranked behind Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai). Da Nang International Airport now serves as an important international air traffic gateway of the Central Highlands region. The airport handled over 15.5 million passengers, over 45,000 tons of cargo and 98,700 movements for 5 domestic airlines and 31 international airlines operating flights to Da Nang in 2019.

In ACV’s strategy of investment in construction and modernization of infrastructure according to International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards, Danang International Airport is focused to meet development needs in the coming time. According to the development plan of air transport by 2030, 28 million passengers/year and 200,000 tons of cargo/year will pass through Da Nang International Airport. Therefore, in addition to this project, ACV is implementing investment procedures for projects such as: Building a 100,000-ton cargo terminal, Expanding T1 terminal to handle over 14 million passengers/year (of which 10 million domestic passengers and 4 million international passengers) and is coordinating with Da Nang city, Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam and Ministry of Transport to adjust the detailed planning of Danang International Airport preparing for passenger terminal T3 (capacity of 10-15 million passengers) and auxiliary infrastructure works.
Another important role of the project is to follow the recommendations of the Ministry of National Defence of Vietnam and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in the environmental remediation of dioxin contamination at Da Nang airport project that covering surfaces works should be constructed soon to avoid erosion and re-contamination of dioxin in this area. The project also reuses 44,000 cubic meters of dioxin treated soil and 11,000 cubic meters of LWIC, which is lightweight concrete, CMU blocks need to be treated on the spot, not to be carried elsewhere to protect the environment and save investment costs.
